BLURB: Cooper Owens is a 20 year old female who is just surviving in small town Mobile, Alabama.  She is a waitress at a diner when one of her customers, 23 year old Emery Reed,  asks what makes her happy.  When she is unable to answer, he offers that she join him on a road trip across the country. During the road trip Emery appears closed off and doesn't talk much.  In order to get to know him better, she reads his journal throughout the trip. 

Trigger Warning: Major depression & suicide.

This is the first book I've read by Kandi Steiner and to say I was blown away would be an understatement. She has such a way with words, I fell in love with the characters quickly. Emery's battle with depression was beautifully written. She was able to highlight his struggle without diminishing his or Cooper's feelings.  Emery Reed, a main character, deals with major depression and suicidal thoughts.  There are also details of an unsuccessful suicide. I wish that the author had put in a warning about this before the book's start.  

This is a book I can definitely see myself rereading.
